Week 3: SHOW ME
by: Lindsay Bruorton, LAMB team member
I can hear my own confusion and impatience in the Pharisees’ question to Jesus. How about you?
“When, Jesus? Tell me when your Kingdom is coming?”
We can read God’s loving promises for our lives in the Bible. We can hear them preached in church, we can study them in Sunday school and talk about them in our small groups. But if we’re honest, we don’t always see what we expect to see when we look for God and His promises in the world today.
The first time I visited the children at LAMB, all the painful stories behind their beautiful, welcoming faces overwhelmed me. It seemed so unfair. They had so little. It didn’t make sense. Why would God lead me there when it was so obvious that I couldn’t fix the brokenness that brought them to LAMB?
Jesus, as He so often does, surprises us with His response to our question. He challenges the Pharisees and us to wake up to this moment, here, now, and points to our need for a greater perspective of God’s Kingdom.
Let’s remember who Jesus is—Immanuel—God with us, now and forever.
Jesus draws us to the not so obvious truth. We look for Him in the tangible boundaries of earthly kingdoms and people. And Jesus calls us to the workings of God’s Holy Spirit in us and the indescribable, unseen presence of His spiritual Kingdom.
I experienced this in a powerful way at LAMB. It started as a nudge in my heart—You need to see me there. There’s something I need to show you in this place now.
The folks at LAMB, their joy and wide-open love, was unlike anything I had ever known before. God moved me to share His love there, but they loved me more. God pieced together simple moments of His promises coming to life as His Spirit in me connected to God’s Spirit in them. God knew I needed to see and believe that He is the One who heals and fills us—His children—with Himself.
Wherever you are, whatever your story, God’s Kingdom is among you, rooted in the power of His love— on earth as it is in Heaven.
How might God be nudging your heart today?
Lord, I praise you for sending the Holy Spirit to live in me. Show me your kingdom in my midst and help me to be aware of your grace-filled nudging. I pray your kingdom would come and your will would be done in me and through me in my everyday life—on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus' name, Amen.
